While researching something else, I noticed the Costello-Kroger bickering and something struck me as a little bit odd…
Peter Costello retired from Parliament in October 2009. Since then, he has been on the board for the Future Fund.
According to Kroger, Costello approached him about a return to Parliament in December 2011. The rumours suggest that he has continued to look for a way back in.
But in March 2012, Costello had a public tantrum about not being appointed as Chair of the Future Fund… What’s going on?
If the rumours are false, then Costello’s tantrum makes sense (for a limited value of the word ‘sense’). Appointing Gonski when the advice was to appoint Costello looks like political interference (similar to the kind of political interference which got him on the board in the first place).
But if the rumours are true (and they really look plausible) then Costello was throwing a tantrum about not getting a plum job from a Government he intends to campaign against.
Costello’s a shameless, cowardly guy, but I’d never have thought him in this league of spinelessness.
